FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of detecting slow and fast neutrons in intense external radiation conditions, characterised by the direction of the beam of neutrons into a detector which has a housing in form of a cylindrical pipe filled with gas, inside of which an anode is placed in the middle and a cathode is placed on the contour of the pipe, where the cathode is connected to a high voltage line, and an insulator which separates the cathode from the housing, distinguished by that the beam of neutrons enters the detector through an input window made from beryllium and the detector itself can function in such a way that electrical signals are generated locally on the anode surface.
EFFECT: possibility of functioning of the neutron detector in conditions of record gamma-background intensity, use of simpler and faster electronic equipment to detect neutrons and rejection of signals from background electrons on amplitude and on the shape of pulses, possibility of increasing neutron detection.
