FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in controlling pump control valve 20 in response to output control signal (52a-52f, 114). Control is realised for every pumping effected by every pump. Control signal (52a-52f, 114) is derived from, at least, one previous pumping cycle by combining proportional component 104 and integral component 110. Proportional component 104 is obtained by performing proportional calculations with error 103 in pressure of hydraulic directional valve. Integral component 110 is obtained by performing integral calculations with error 102. Said pressure error 102 is obtained by measuring fuel pressure 42 inside the valve and comparing it with required value 46. Invention covers also the fuel pump assembly including multiple pump elements 20 to feed fuel at high pressure into hydraulic directional valve. Pump element 10 comprises plunger 12 and control valve 20. Plunger 12 is actuated by cam for pumping purposes. Valve 20 control fuel flowing in/out of pump chamber 14.

EFFECT: reliable pressure control, possibility to detect deterioration of fuel feed.
