FIELD: printing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a document with a protection property, and also to a reading unit for this document. The document with a protection property contains an optical element which can be switched between a first substantially opaque state and a second substantially transparent state. The optical element is placed in such a way that it is in its first state prevents access to the protection property. The document also contains an integrated electronic circuit to switch the optical element, and the integrated electronic circuit includes means for authentication of the external reading unit. The integrated electronic circuit is adapted to switch the optical element into the second state after the implementation of authentication to allow the optical access to the reading unit and/or visual access of the user to protection property. The integrated electronic circuit has an electronic memory for storing the first data. The protection property has the second optically-readable data, and the first and second data are identical. The document has an interface through which the first data only after authentication can be transmitted to an external reading unit.

EFFECT: document provides increased protection against counterfeiting.
