FIELD: information technologies.
SUBSTANCE: when preparing for service transfer, mobile stations measure a level of a signal sent from neighbouring cells as specified with the help of RNC. When in UTRAN WCDMA, measurement of cells inside the frequency, i.e. cells with a frequency number differing from a service cell, requires generation of time intervals from the network, during which the mobile station may do the measurements at different frequencies (compressed mode). GAN cells are not transferred in their assigned frequency number, and this number together with an identifier is used to identify a GAN cell between MS and RNC. In order to permit to GAN cells to always have the same frequency number as the neighbouring UTRAN cells, there is a modified registration procedure proposed, in which MS sends a frequency number used in the current UTRAN cell, into a GAN controller, which selects this frequency, and whenever necessary, uses it to determine the appropriate identifier. The identifier may be one and the same for all GAN cells or may be received from a small display table, which displays the identifier into each frequency or a group of frequencies.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of using system throughput capacity, mobile station capacity.
