FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to carbon dioxide sorbents. The sorbent for removing carbon dioxide from gaseous mixtures contains 4-70 wt % calcium oxide, 29-95 wt % yttrium oxide, and has pore volume of not less than 0.05 cm3/g. The absorbent is made by saturating yttrium oxide with a solution of calcium compounds or a calcium compound or mixing calcium and yttrium oxides, followed by drying and calcination. Carbon dioxide is removed from the gases using the obtained sorbent. The gaseous mixture from which carbon dioxide has been removed can contain water vapour in concentration of up to 100 vol. %, have pressure from 1 to 30 atm and temperature from 550 to 850°C.

EFFECT: preserving strength of the sorbent after use in the presence of water vapour and during prolonged storage in air.
