FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing crystalline (α- or β- polymorph) 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazatetracyclo[5,5,0,03.11,05.9]dodecane (HNIW), used as a high-efficiency explosive, via crystallisation from a HNIW solution purified beforehand. Crystals are deposited when tetrachloromethane is added to a saturated solution of HNIW in acetonitrile or in saturated solution chilling conditions to obtain an α-polymorph or a β-polymorph, respectively.

EFFECT: high efficiency of the method, wider range of compositions for which the obtained end product is suitable, in accordance with the current requirement owing to provision for conditions for achieving high degree of purity, homogeneity and minimisation of particle size spread of the given modification of HNIW.
