FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in tachometers, nondestructive inspection devices, displacement sensors, sensors for measuring constant and variable magnetic fields, electric current and biosensors. The magnetoresistive gradiometer transducer has a substrate with a dielectric layer on which there are thin-film magnetoresistive strips connected by nonmagnetic low-resistance connecting links into a bridge circuit, each strip having a top and a bottom protective layer with a ferromagnetic film in between. There is an insulating layer on top of the thin-film magnetoresistive strips. The thin-film magnetoresistive strips in the first and fourth arms of the bridge circuit lie perpendicular to the thin-film magnetoresistive strips of the second and third arms of the bridge circuit, wherein the first and second arms of the bridge circuit lie from the third and fourth arms of the bridge circuit at a distance not less than twice the length of the thin-film magnetoresistive strip.
EFFECT: invention enables design of a magnetoresistive gradiometer transducer with an even voltage versus oersted curve which goes into saturation with increase in magnetic field.
