FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: movement of a vehicle at an intersection is controlled by a traffic light. Vehicles approaching the intersection by a distance shorter than a predetermined boundary are detected and identified. To this end, the vehicles are fitted with identification units, and vehicle detection units are installed at predetermined points far and near the boundary of approaching the traffic light, through which the space in which they are installed is probed with a radio signal. Using the vehicle identification units falling in the radio probing zone, response signals, bearing a codeword with identification data of the corresponding vehicle, are generated. These response signals are detected, received and decoded using the detection units. Duration of the clear signal is set equal to at least that time interval over which a vehicle, from those that have crossed the far boundary of approach in that direction during a restrictive signal, as well as the previous clear signal, crossing the near boundary of approach is completed.
EFFECT: high efficiency of traffic light regulation owing to possibility of automatic adaptation to varying traffic density.
