FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: plasma-chemical method of decontaminating organochlorine substances involves preheating these substances, mixing with superheated steam, feeding the steam-gas mixture into a plasma jet reactor and neutralisation of pyrolysis products. Pyrolysis of the substances takes place in turbulent conditions with Re number not less than 10000, and dwell time of the steam-gas mixture in the reactor is 5-10 ms. Reaction products from the reactor are fed into an afterburner chamber where temperature is kept not lower than 1300°C and the dwell time of the gas stream is 2-3 s. Oxidation is carried out while feeding air or oxygen into the afterburner chamber which provides oxidant excess coefficient of 1.02-1.10. Reaction products from the afterburner chamber undergo step-by-step cooling by spraying water into the gas stream, wherein at the first step the products are cooled to 550-650°C, at the second step to 200-300°C and at the third step to 120-150°C.

EFFECT: high reliability of the method of destroying highly toxic substances while ensuring environmental safety.
