FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: source of charged particles is made from nonradioactive material; a charged particle absorber is placed opposite the source of charged particles, wherein at least one of them is mounted on an elastically deformable element, which enables to adjust sensitivity of the sensor. The source of charged particles is made from gadolinium metal or isotopes thereof: Gd-155 and/or Gd-157, or from cadmium or isotope thereof Cd-113. The charged particle absorber is made from graphite.
EFFECT: design of an electromechanical neutron sensor which is insensitive to background radiation and electromechanical crosstalk, higher functional capabilities of the sensor owing to measurement of virtually unlimited large neutron streams, taking measurements in difficult radiation conditions and hard-to-reach places, simple design and possibility of adjusting sensitivity of the sensor.
