FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: fast neutron sensor has a source of charged particles arising under the action of neutron radiation and an elastic member, wherein the source of charged particles is made from stable, non-radioactive material. A charged particle absorber is placed opposite the source of charged particles, at least one of them being mounted on the elastic member in form of a winding of a cylindrical spring, or helical spring, or torsional spring, or shell-type spring.
EFFECT: avoiding fissile material, high noise-immunity, high reliability of measurements and the neutron detector, eliminating restrictions on the measured flux and fluence, enabling measurement of the time dependency of flux in case of pulsed neutron sources, providing the required triggering threshold by non-electrical means when starting up the detecting equipment, enabling multiple use and easy technical implementation.
