FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: neutron detector has a source of charged particles arising under the action of neutron radiation, wherein the detecting element of the sensor is in form of a multilayer structure consisting of alternating layers of a source and an absorber of charged particles. The layers of the source of charged particles are made from stable non-radioactive material and the layers of the source and/or absorber of charged particles are electrically connected to gates of field-effect transistors, and the field-effect transistors are connected to a circuit for detecting change in transistor channel resistance.
EFFECT: avoiding fissile material, reduced sensitivity to background radiation, enabling measurement of the time dependency of flux in case of pulsed neutron sources, enabling multiple use and easy technical implementation.
