FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: foil connector (28, 30) is meant for use in a gas-discharge lamp (1) with a pinch seal in which molybdenum foil is inserted when pinching. The foil connector has a substrate layer formed from foil (40) on which there is a coating (42). That coating (42) comprises a first coating layer (44) on the substrate containing a noble metal, and a second coating layer (46) separated from the substrate by first coating layer (44). The second coating layer (46) also contains a noble metal. In each of the first and second coating layers, the noble metal contains at least one of gold, platinum and nickel as the primary component.

EFFECT: longevity of pressure seals of lamps owing to higher resistance of the substrate to oxidation during operation of the lamp.
