FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is meant for determining location of an operating radar station having a scanning directional antenna. An existing apparatus, having an antenna, a receiver, an analogue-to-digital converter, a signal detection device, a time interval counter, memory, a forward signal selecting device, has a second antenna for determining the bearing of the radar station and reflecting objects, a second receiver, a second analogue-to-digital converter, a monopulse bearing calculator, a controlled logic gate, a clock pulse generator synchronising digital devices and counting time intervals and a computer. Coordinates of reflecting objects lying in the coverage area of the disclosed apparatus are first entered into the computer memory. After detecting a forward signal and subsequent reflected signals, the monopulse bearing calculator, time interval counter and controlled logic gate are activated. If there is a signal at the output of the signal detection device, data on delay of the detected signal and its bearing are entered into the memory together with the output signal of the forward signal selecting device of the radar station. The computer processes data stored in the memory by selecting sets from the forward and reflected signals and estimating range to the radar station. The range at which the difference between coordinates that are calculated and those stored in the computer memory assume the minimum value is considered the range to the radar station.
EFFECT: determining location of operating radar stations, having an arbitrary beam scanning law in space and an arbitrary repetition period of emitted signals.
