FIELD: radar technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of radar and is intended for determining the location of a radar station of a sector survey. The effect is achieved by providing the determination of the range to the radar, which has a directional pattern of the antenna (DPA) scanning in a given sector. In the claimed method, a passive multipath direction finder measures at least two differences in the arrival time of signals emitted by the side lobes of the radar antenna system, and signals re-emitted by local areas of reflection of the earth or water surface when they are irradiated by the main lobe of the DPA, as well as azimuths on the radar and the corresponding areas of local reflection. Based on the obtained primary measurements, an indirect estimate of the angle between the direction to the radar and the direction of the position of its DPA is made, which, together with the measured distance differences and azimuths, makes it possible to estimate the range to the radar.
