FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method for quantitative determination of iodine involves transfer of all forms of iodine from a sample into a solution in form of iodide ions and voltammetric determination, wherein accumulation of iodide ions in the mixed solution is carried out on a silver electrode for 10-20 s at electrolysis potential Ee equal to 0.00±0.05 V relative silver chloride electrodes on a background of 0.1 mol/dm3 hydrazine sulphate solution with subsequent detection of the cathode peak in differential-pulsed mode of recording voltage versus current curves with potential sweep rate of 20 mV/s; concentration of iodide ions is determined from the height of the peak in the (-0.40±0.05)V region via a calibrated mixture addition technique.
EFFECT: invention enables to use electrodes made of nontoxic material and determine iodide ions through cathode stripping voltammetry in the presence of dissolved oxygen without further addition of a reducing agent to the background electrolyte.
