FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: detection of moving objects takes place automatically without an observer-operator. In the method for automatic detection of moving objects, video sequence frames are formed. The first and second frames are stored. Two frames are then formed from the first frame, in one of which the last or first pixels in rows and columns is forcefully set to zero. The other frame is formed from the first without changes. Similarly, two frames are formed from the second frame. The difference in frequency characteristics for similarly formed frames is then determined. The difference in the obtained differences is found and extreme values of the obtained double differences are determined. Two new frames each are formed from the same first and second frames, but the number of zeroed pixels increases by one in each row and column. Extreme values of double differences are found and compared with those found earlier.

EFFECT: high efficiency of automatic detection of moving objects and determining motion parameters thereof in low illumination conditions, including low-contrast and small-sized objects on a complex inhomogeneous background.
