FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: rail is made from steel containing the following components, in wt %: 0.65-1.20 C, 0.05-2.00 Si, 0.05-2.00 Mn, not over 0.0150 P, not over 0.0100 S, 0.0005-0.0200 Ca, Fe and unavoidable impurities make the rest. Rail head surface area extending from head angular surfaces and top surface down to 10 mm features perlite structure with hardness varying from 320 to 500 Hv. Manganese sulphide-based impurities with main size varying from 10 to 100 mcm in amount of 10-200/mm2 in cross-section in direction of perlite structure length.
EFFECT: higher resistance to abrasion and impact resistance.
