FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method for nondestructive inspection of articles made from electroconductive materials involves scanning the surface of the inspected article, reading, converting and processing information obtained during scanning, as well as imaging defects, wherein electric current is passed through the inspected article and distribution of magnetic field intensity generated by said current on the surface of the article is recorded. The magnetic pattern of the surface of the inspected article is formed and imaged, and then compared with the magnetic pattern of a control sample without defects obtained in advance. Based on the resultant deviations of the magnetic pattern of the surface of the inspected article from the magnetic pattern of the control sample, which represent magnetic patterns of the detected defects, the number and location of the defects in the inspected article are determined, and the magnetic patterns of the detected defects are then compared with group magnetic patterns of defects having determined and known parameters. Parameters of the detected defects are determined from the results of the last comparison.
EFFECT: broader functional capabilities of the method owing to detection of defects from para- and diamagnetic materials.
