FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of testing subcritical physical properties of a core employs a vanadium self-actuated core inspection and measuring device in a channel assembly for measuring power distribution. This enables to make sure that the power distribution matches the design distribution. Signals received from core detector elements are summed while relative error is not below a given level. The measured power distribution is then compared with the design power distribution for the given rod position or temperature drop. If the measured power distribution is within said error to the design power distribution, the core is expected to behave as predicted.
EFFECT: safer of switching a reactor to operating power.
