FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of reducing the amount of organic compounds in water. Surface-reacted natural calcium carbonate and a hydrophobic adsorbent, selected from a group consisting of talc, hydrophobised calcium carbonate, hydrophobised bentonite, hydrophobised kaolinite, hydrophobised glass or any mixture thereof, are brought into contact with the water to be purified. The surface-reacted natural calcium carbonate in form of a suspension, having pH higher than 6.0, is a product of reaction of natural calcium carbonate with an acid and carbon dioxide.
EFFECT: invention provides efficient purification from a range of organic substances and simple purification.
