FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed method for treating water and/or drying sludge and/or sediments, which includes providing the object to be treated, which contains impurities; and providing surface-treated calcium carbonate, wherein at least 1% of the accessible surface area of the calcium carbonate has a coating containing at least one cationic polymer. Further, the method includes contacting the prepared components to obtain a composite material from surface-treated calcium carbonate and impurities, wherein calcium carbonate particles of at least one surface-treated calcium carbonate have a weight-average particle diameter d50 of 0.01-250 mcm, and/or calcium carbonate particles of at least one surface-treated calcium carbonate have specific surface area of 1-250 m2/g, wherein the cationic polymer has positive charge density in the range of 1 mEq/g to 15 mEq/g, and/or in the cationic polymer at least 60% of monomer units have a cationic charge.
EFFECT: obtaining effective water treatment material, which provides high efficiency of purification from inorganic impurities with low flocculant consumption.
