SUBSTANCE: disclosed signal conversion circuit is used in a liquid crystal display device with multiple fundamental colours (especially a liquid crystal display device with multiple fundamental colours which displays in vertical alignment mode), and in a liquid crystal display device with multiple fundamental colours, having such a signal conversion circuit. The signal conversion circuit is used in a liquid crystal display device with multiple fundamental colours which displays in vertical alignment mode, and converts an output video signal into a signal with multiple fundamental colours corresponding to four or more fundamental colours. When generating a signal with multiple fundamental colours for displaying dark skin, the signal conversion circuit applies conversion to a video signal such that the colour difference Δu'v'=((u'-u60')2+(v'-v60')2) is equal to 0.03 or less, the colour difference Δu'v' being defined by colour coordinates (u', v') CIE1976, which represent the colour index when a pixel is observed from the front, and colour coordinates (u60 ', v60') CIE1976, which represent the colour index when a pixel is observed at an angle of 60°.
