SUBSTANCE: liquid crystal display device includes a first polarisation plate, having an absorption axis which passes in a first direction; a second polarisation plate having an absorption axis which passes in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction; a pixel electrode lying on each of a plurality of pixels and having a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode to which different voltage levels can be applied; a counter electrode facing the pixel electrode, and a liquid crystal layer placed between the pixel electrodes and the counter electrode. The first subpixel electrode includes a plurality of side electrodes passing in an identical direction which is a third direction, different from a direction inclined at 45° to the first direction or the second direction. The second subpixel electrode includes a plurality of side electrodes passing in an identical direction which is a fourth direction, different from the third direction.
EFFECT: improved display quality.
