FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: time-domain photosensitive optical reflectometer is configured to detect violation of the phase of light propagating in an optical waveguide. The device has a light source, a photodetector and a processor. The light source is meant for sending series of light pulses through the waveguide. The photodetector is meant to generate signals which characterise time-distributed intensity of light in a speckle pattern, where said light is scattered back into the waveguide when corresponding light pulses pass through that waveguide. The processor is meant for comparing said signals in order to identify the difference in intensity of light scattered back into the waveguide when corresponding light pulses pass through that waveguide. Light pulses sent through the waveguide have spectral width of about 0.1-100 GHz.
EFFECT: shorter time for identifying changes in external action on optical fibre and possibility of analysing changes taking place over shorter averaging time.
