SUBSTANCE: portable, self-contained scanning device (100) for metallurgical nondestructive inspection includes: a chassis (102), wheels (108) located beneath the lower surface of the chassis (102), at least one sensor (118) attached to the chassis (102), a computer processor device (200) connected to the chassis (102), wherein the computer processor device (200) lies inside the chassis (102); a display device (216) is also located inside the chassis (102) and maintains a connection with the computer processor device (200); the display device (216) is also configured to display images in response to a response signal, and the operator can view the image during operation of the scanning device (100), and the chassis (102), the computer processor device (200) and the display device (216) can move along the inspected object (109) as a single unit.

EFFECT: design of a compact, self-contained scanning device, which enables one operator, in limited space, to monitor and collect data and simultaneously view results on a display screen during metallurgical nondestructive inspection.
