SUBSTANCE: receiving unit detects (401) that many data units, which have been sent by means of a transmitting unit, have been lost. The receiving unit sends (402) a short message on the status to the transmitting unit along a radio communication line, besides, the message is cut so that it contains a negative confirmation for the first part of lost data units and omitted negative confirmations for the remaining part of the lost data units. The omitted negative confirmation for the remaining part of the lost data units shall not be interpreted by an error as correctly received data units by means of the transmitting unit.

EFFECT: provision of sufficient available resources of radio communication for transfer of an entire message on status.
