METHOD OF LOW-CARBON STEEL PROCESSING IN LADLE Russian patent published in 2012 - IPC C21C7/00

Abstract RU 2465341 C2

FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to low-carbon steel making processes; besides, the above steel contains carbon of 0.01÷0.09 wt % and silicon of 0.01÷0.04 wt % after its processing. Method involves tapping of molten metal from converter to ladle, supply to ladle of silicon-manganese-containing and silicon-containing materials as deoxidisers during tapping of slag-forming material, and further out-of-furnace processing of molten metal in the ladle. At the beginning of metal tapping process, when 0.3 of height of ladle working cavity is filled, slag-forming material is supplied; then, when the ladle is filled within 0.31÷0.60 of height of working cavity, silicon-manganese-containing material with consumption of 0.5÷5.0 kg/t of molten metal is supplied to the ladle, and when the ladle is filled within 0.70÷0.95 of height of its working cavity, silicon-containing material is supplied to the ladle. Molten metal is blown down in the ladle with argon with flow rate of 0.0005÷0.01 m3/min-t and aluminium is added in the form of rolled wire with flow rate of 0.2÷2.0 kg/t of molten metal during the next out-of-furnace processing.

EFFECT: invention allows obtaining the specified silicon content at reduction of manganese and aluminium loss.
