FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to special metallurgy, particularly, to constructing vacuum arc skull furnaces for ingot melting of reactive metals and alloys, mainly titanic alloys. A vacuum arc skull furnace includes a vacuum water-cooled chamber, an electrode holder, a consumable skull electrode, a water-cooled crucible and a dismountable crystalliser consisting of a barrel and a casting bottom. A lateral surface of the crystalliser barrel consists of separable segments to form external lateral surface of an ingot. The segments close when melt is discharged into the crystalliser and open vertically after the ingot is formed due to their own mechanical drives. Cavities for sheltering open segments of crystalliser are made in the cooling chamber. The furnace is provided with contactless sensors measuring a temperature of the lateral surface of the produced ingot.
EFFECT: invention enables to reduce cooling time of a produced ingot, to increase crystalliser resource and cut foundry equipment cost.
