FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: scalpel comprises a cutting edge, a handle and a removable protective case The removable protective case is attachable to the handle and made of an elastic sheet material of a width matched with that of a handle portion enveloped with a duct. Duct walls are elastically pressed to facing surface of the handle portion, preferentially, flat. One of the duct walls is longer than the others. From a body cavity of the duct there is a projecting flange perpendicular to its wall and used as a rotation axis. The handle comprises a hole, preferentially a through hole put on said flange and rotating thereabout. A distance of a blade point to the hole used for case rotation exceeds that of a duct end face to a rotation axis of the case. In the duct cavity, there is a rotation limiter contacting with a facing edge of the handle portion enveloped with the case. In the case cavity, at least on one duct wall, there is a supplementary flange location of which is related with that of a notch on a matched side of the handle portion enveloped with the case.

EFFECT: improved performance characteristics of the scalpel, eliminated contact of the cutting edge and the case when put on, fixed on the scalpel and stored that enables to avoid damaging the cutting face and the cutting edge; the case material stands sterilisations that enables sterilising the assembled scalpel; the case is producible and its structure is easily adapted to various construction arrangement of the scalpel.
