FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine. Staple cartridge for use with an end effector of a surgical stapler comprises a retainer. Retainer is locked to the cartridge and includes one or more deflectable tabs that engage the fastener cartridge. One or more tabs can be displaced when the fastener cartridge is fully installed in the fastener cartridge channel such that the tabs disengage from the cartridge, enabling a user to remove the retainer. Tabs extend from a body of the retainer and can engage exterior portions of a fastener cartridge. Tabs are displaced outwardly by the fastener cartridge channel or displaced inwardly when the movable portions are deflected by the fastener cartridge channel.
EFFECT: invention can be used for stapling.
