FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method involves: producing preparations of donor blood portions, products prepared thereof or by machine apheresis, adding an appropriate photoactive substance and photodynamic exposure to light containing or exclusively consisting of wave length within an absorption region of the photoactive substance, and/or exposure to ultraviolet (UV-) at wave length 200-320 nm. The preparations may consist of many individual, separately stored doses and are kept in flexible flat packages permeable for appropriate exposure. The packages are filled by min. 30% of maximum capacity, and agitated during photodynamic treatment and/or UV exposure so that the package content is mixed to form areas of variable layer thickness of a layer thickness max. 1 mm. The used UV exposure consists of or contains UV-B exposure of wave length max. 320 nm to 280 nm of radiation energy within the range 0.3 to 10 J/cm2 and/or UV-C exposure of wave range max. 280 nm to 200 nm.

EFFECT: invention provides sterilisation of separate doses of donor blood, plasma or concentrated erythrocytes of a higher degree of pathogen inactivation in freely arranged packages during agitation for exposure.
