FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: erosion thermal machining is performed in wire-winding of electrode. The latter is preformed to drop-shape cross-section with rounding in axis of symmetry. Zinc plating is performed on the side of said cross-section to maximum coating thickness on said rounding with proportional reduction of said thickness to smooth conjugation of the coating with electrode lateral sides. Wire electrode is fed into machining zone in direction of axis of symmetry toward rounding while winding speed is adjusted to ensure complete wear of coating at outlet of electrode from billet.

EFFECT: higher intensity of machining and surface quality.
