FIELD: physics, communications.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication systems, particularly to a method and apparatus for assigning redundancy versions to a circular buffer within a communication system. During operation of a transmitter a circular buffer is created where only column tops of the circular buffer are defined as a starting position for a redundancy version. When the circular buffer is in sequence format, all possible redundancy versions are arranged as a function of the index of the column of starting position of the first redundancy version.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of the circular buffer based on a speed matching algorithm.
