METHOD FOR PREDICTION OF CLINICAL COURSE OF BACTERIAL PURULENT MENINGITIS Russian patent published in 2012 - IPC A61B10/00 G01N33/48

Abstract RU 2467696 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention concerns medicine, particularly infectology. There are determined patient's age, level of impaired consciousness at the moment of admission to hospital, a period of admission to hospital to the beginning of disease, spinal fluid (SF) protein concentration, the presence of generalised convulsions. The derived data are used to perform formula: ŷ=exp(-17.6+X1×0.128+X2×1.704+X3×1.441+X4×3.007+X5×4.124+X6×2.536)/(1+exp(-17.6+X1×0.128+X2×1.704+X3×1.441+X4×3.007+X5×4.124+X6×2.536)), wherein X1 is patient's age, years old, X2 is the period of admission to hospital to the beginning of disease, days, X3 is the SF protein concentration, g/l, X4 is a single episode of generalised convulsions: 0 - no, 1 - yes, X5 is a recurrent episode of generalised convulsions: 0 - no, 1 and more - yes, X6 is impaired consciousness by Glasgow Come Scale: 0 - 10 and more points, 1 - less than 10 points. The value y being 0.5 or less enables predicting the cyclic clinical course of bacterial purulent meningitis, while the value ŷ exceeding 0.5 shows the acyclic clinical course, whereas the value y exceeding 0.99 makes the fatal outcome to be predicted.

EFFECT: method enables early predicting the clinical course of bacterial purulent meningitis regardless an aetiology of the disease.
