FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing alkylene glycol which can be used in antifreeze compositions, as a solvent and as base material for producing polyalkylene terephthalates. The method involves bringing alkylene oxide into contact with carbon dioxide and water in the presence of a catalyst composition containing an active anion selected from a group consisting of metallates, carbonate, hydrocarbonate and hydroxide, immobilised on a first solid support containing one or more electropositive sites and a halide selected from bromides and iodides, immobilised on a first or second solid support containing one or more electropositive sites.
EFFECT: invention enables to realise the disclosed method with high level of conversion using highly active and selective catalyst compositions.
