SUBSTANCE: device has a display module, having illumination elements which separately glow depending on current. The illumination elements are arranged into an array. The display device has a control signal generator for generating a control signal for controlling the effective fill factor from which the illumination time per unit time is controlled. The illumination elements glow during the illumination time. The device has an illumination time setter for setting the effective fill factor, which is equal to or less than the upper limiting value provided for setting the effective fill factor in accordance with image information of the input image signal, such that overall luminance per unit time is limited, and for that luminance, the illumination elements of the display module glow. The device has an upper limiting value setter for varying the upper limiting value of the illumination time setter depending on the control signal output from the control signal generator based on the operation performed.
EFFECT: preventing flow of excess current through illumination elements.
