SUBSTANCE: display device has a section for calculating the amount of emitted light, which calculates the amount of emitted light based on a video signal having a linear characteristic, a section for calculating the light emission parameter which, based on the calculated amount of emitted light, calculates light emission parameters which correspond to the amount of emitted light for each one of the pixels and group of pixels, which include a plurality of pixels, a storage section for the light emission parameter, which stores parameters of the amount of light emission in association with one of the pixels and group of pixels, a peak detecting section which detects a peak value among the stored parameters of the amount of emitted light, which corresponds to all of the one of the pixels or group of pixels, a coefficient calculation section which, based on the detected peak value, calculates a coefficient which controls brightness, and a section for multiplying by the coefficient, which multiplies the video signal by the calculated coefficient, and outputs the multiplied video signal.
EFFECT: reducing the burn-out effect on the screen.
