SUBSTANCE: device for providing information about the animals as they pass through the passage (1) for animals comprises a recognising device connected to a computing device, with a sensor device to collect information about the animals that pass through the passage, and a data processing device for recognising animals in the data/signals received by the sensor device and issue of count pulses when recognising animals in these signals. The sensor device is made with the ability to create three-dimensional images. The data processing device is made with the ability to recognise the animals in three-dimensional data of the said three-dimensional images and counting the animals on the basis of this recognition. Through the recognising device the data on the animals passing through the passage is obtained and they are evaluated through the data processing device. Based on this evaluation the count pulses are generated to start the counter of animals in the data processing device or in the computing device. Recognition of animals includes at least the following steps: three-dimensional data are created from three-dimensional images of animals or parts of bodies of animals, these three-dimensional data are processed for which, at least, count pulses are generated.
