SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to surgery, and can be applied as one of diagnostic criteria in assessment of severity degree and prognosis for patients with acute pancreatitis. Method lies in determination of index of erythrocyte lipid composition chaotropicity by formula: where Cl is chaotropicity index, units, LPL is content of lysophospholipids from total content of lipids, %, FFA stands fro free fatty acids from total content of lipids, %, TPL stands for total phospholipids from total content of lipids, %. Values of chaotropicity index lower than 1.7 correspond to norm, from 1.8 to 2.5 are indicative of development of acute edematous pancreatitis with abortive course, from 2.6 to 4.4 - of acute destructive pancreatitis with abortive course, from 4.6 and higher - of acute destructive pancreatitis with progressing course.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase accuracy of prediction of acute pancreatitis course.
