FIELD: physics, computer engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding numerical data and transmitting data structures in an IP-based telecommunication system. Described is a method of encoding a numerical data entity in positional notation whose basic elements are symbols which are presented according to ASCII, in binary coding, wherein the bit value at position 6 of the binary code which represents all symbols representing the data entity, except the symbol assigned to the least significant element, is set in a first predetermined binary value, and the bit value at position 6 of the binary code which represents a symbol assigned to the least significant element, is set to another binary value. Also described is a method of encoding and a method of decoding complex data structures containing chained rows for transmission in form of a series of symbols in telecommunication systems, based on providing a row header field associated with the useful data field to provide a series of line symbols, wherein the header field contains the stored numerical value of the data entity which represents the number of symbols making up the useful data field, which is encoded in said positional notation.
