FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: basic system (30) and method of controlling gases, which involve use of a basic adapter (32) of respiratory channels and a gas-sensitive assembly (34), linked to the adapter of respiratory channels, to measure a gas analyte flowing through the adapter. The gas-sensitive part (36) emits a signal indicating the analyte in the gas stream in the main adapter of respiratory channels. The processing part (38) receives the signal from the gas-sensitive part and determines the amount of analyte in the gas stream based on the signal from the gas-sensitive part. The processing part determines whether oxygen measurements are of sufficient quality for their intended use, such as measurement of oxygen consumption and metabolic assessments. Quality measurements can be used to improve accuracy of the obtained metabolic assessments. The invention provides methods through which carbon dioxide gas measurements can be processed and used instead of direct measurement of oxygen for the whole or part of the respiratory cycle.
EFFECT: accurate identification of distorted oscillatory oxygen signals and correcting such oscillatory signals.
