FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method and a device for determining coordinates of an inspected section of a pipeline lying on flat ground in the world geodetic system WGS-84, based on vertical distribution of sound speed in an aquatic medium, adjustments for the location of the antenna of a side-scanning sonar on board the vehicle, delay between output of navigation data and reception of echo signals reflected from the bottom, location and orientation of a self-contained unmanned underwater vehicle in the WGS-84.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining altitude and horizontal position of an underwater pipeline.
