FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device for controlling amplitude transmission of a light beam has a voltage source, a monoaxial electrooptic crystal in form of an x-section plate having on the upper surface linear control electrodes which are orthogonal to the z-axis of optical anisotropy of the electrooptic crystal, said electrodes being in form of an interdigital structure and forming a diffraction grating. The surface of the electrooptic crystal is coated with a first and a second polarising coating, the first polarising coating being applied on the lower surface of the electrooptic crystal such that its transmission axis makes an angle 0°<α<90° with the z-axis of optical anisotropy of the electrooptic crystal, and the second polarising coating is applied on the upper surface of the electrooptic crystal such that its transmission axis is parallel to the y-axis or the z-axis of optical anisotropy of the electrooptic crystal.

EFFECT: reduced control voltage.
