FIELD: electronic equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrooptical devices based on liquid crystals for controlling polarisation properties and intensity of light flux, as well as for displaying and processing unit, and can be used, in particular, to designing high-speed modulators of optical radiation and liquid crystal displays. Substance of invention consists in fact that in liquid crystal modulator comprises two substrates with planar system of electrodes on each, is realised by switching of electric field in two orthogonal directions, respectively, along and perpendicular to liquid crystal layer with controlled intensity. Tensions of switched electric fields reorientation rate of liquid crystal molecules between two orientation and optically distinguishable states, excluding long-term step free viscoelastic relaxation in main orientation state.
EFFECT: improved contrast, faster operation of liquid crystal element.
