FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves reaction of propylene with hydrogen peroxide on a fixed titanium layer of a silicalite catalyst in the presence of a solvent in two steps. The first synthesis step is realised in an adiabatic film reactor operating in conditions close to mixing conditions, with circulation of a portion of the reaction mixture through a cooling heat exchanger. Temperature of the reaction mixture at the outlet of the first reactor is not higher than 55°C and hydrogen peroxide conversion is equal to 70-85%. After separating the formed propylene oxide, the reaction mixture is fed for completion of the reaction into a second adiabatic film reactor operating in displacement conditions with temperature at the outlet of the reactor not higher than 70°C.
EFFECT: method enables to carry out synthesis with high selectivity 90-96% and obtain a reaction mixture with 16-17% propylene oxide content.
