FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method of diagnosing determination of operating parameter of an internal combustion engine involving a first and then a second operation. During the first operation at a first moment in time (t1) after turning off the engine, a first value (T1) which characterises a first operating parameter of the internal combustion engine is determined and compared with a given value (T2). If a first divergence (∆T1) between the first value (T1) and the given value (T2) has a value greater than a first threshold value (S1), an error (F) is diagnosed. The given first threshold value (S1) is selected less with increase in time elapsed after turning off the internal combustion engine. When executing the subsequent second diagnosis operation, if for a second divergence (∆T2) between (T1) and (T2) at a second moment in time (t2) within the subsequent second diagnosis operation, it is established that the second divergence (∆T2) has a value less than a second threshold value (S2), the detected error (F) is corrected. The error (F) detected during the first diagnosis operation is corrected during the subsequent second operation only if the given second threshold value (S2) is not higher than a given maximum value (S1; S1-O), wherein said maximum value (S1; S1-O) is generated depending on the given first threshold value (S1). The invention also provides an apparatus for realising said method.
