FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: machining tool component comprises polycrystalline diamond layer 12 with second phase including metal and working surface 16. Softer layer 20 including metal selected from the group including molybdenum, tantalum and niobium is bonded with working surface 16 of said layer 12. Metal in softer layer 20 exists as metal carbide and minor amount of metal proper at section 22 of polycrystalline diamond layer 12 adjoining phase interface. Machining tool component is characterised by cutting edge self-rounding and self-honing at initial stages of wear.
EFFECT: decreased breakoff, improved machining properties.
