FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: excitation of ultrasonic oscillations in the tested piece, which propagate in the plane of the tested piece, reception and processing of the signal reflected from the tested piece defect is performed. Besides, before the testing process, the temperature of the tested piece is measured additionally, air cushion is created by supplying steam-air mixture under pressure between the plane of ultrasonic transducers and the surface of the tested piece, which meet the condition: P×S=F, where P - steam-air mixture pressure, S - area of working surface of ultrasonic transducer, F - pressing force of transducer to the surface of the tested piece. The steam-to-air ratio is chosen within 0.01% to 3% as to the mixture volume depending on the tested piece temperature.
EFFECT: improving the testing accuracy by means of electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMAT); increasing EMAT service life.
