FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nonferrous metallurgy. Metal melt is fed into are of effects induced by electromagnetic field of inductor 1 that prevents spreading of melt in crystallisation area. Cooling fluid 6 is fed directly onto said melt. Electromagnetic forces drive said melt along path 5 to equalise cooling conditions over the entire cross-section. To accelerate melt crystallisation, radius of sphere inscribed in cast ingot volume should make at least 20 mm. Electromagnetic field frequency is selected in compliance with relationship where γ is melt conductivity, rin is radius of sphere inscribed in cast ingot volume, µ0 is magnetic constant.
EFFECT: higher quality of ingots due fine-grained structure that features grain size under 20 mcm.
